Thanksgiving Day - Monday Oct 8th, 2012

posted Oct 6, 2012, 10:19 AM by Justin Allport
Quick reminder that the centre will be closed for Thanksgiving Day on Monday October 8th, 2012. It's a little known fact that this will be the 134th Thanksgiving Day celebrated in post-confederation Canada. The first was actually celebrated on April 5th, 1872, to celebrate the recovery of future King Edward VII (then Prince of Wales) from a serious illness. There are no further records of officially recognized days of thanks giving until 1879, and it was not until 1957 that, by proclamation, the second Monday in October was set permanently as Thanksgiving Day. Happy Thanksgiving!
